The world around us understands the concept of meditation. We see it everywhere. The word conjures up an image of a slender woman in spandex sitting cross legged and making a circle with her fingers. I once took a physical fitness class at a local community college, and had just such an instructor. She was a true believer in mediation, and required all students to participate before allowing us to play volleyball. We were lead step by step through the process...sit in the correct position...eyes closed...breath in a slow steady pace. Most importantly, she told us, was the need to clear our minds of any thoughts. I used the time the think of poems for my girlfriend (to whom I am now married).
How strange. The world tells us to empty our minds while meditating, but the Bible tells us the exact opposite. Instead of emptying our minds, we are told to fill our minds with God's holy Word.
The world delivers empty promises. They desperately seek to find hope, peace, and assurance somewhere deep within themselves. Scripture has a better plan.
Today, grab God's word. Open to a passage, and allow its truths to fill your mind. See what God does!
Prayer
Merciful Father,
Your Word is my delight,
I will continually meditate on its truths,
and ponder its wisdom.
Amen.
