Lecture on 2 Peter 3:9

Readers,

On Saturday I am planning on giving a lecture on 2 Peter 3:9. It is a gathering of fellow pastors and other exegetically-minded folk, and the purpose of my 30 minute speech is to articulate my exegesis ("study of") this passage. Sadly, 2 Peter is one of those New Testament books for which I have relatively few commentaries or expositions. I am looking for some recommendations.

I already possess the following:

Green, 2nd Peter & Jude--Tyndale New Testament Commentary
Moo, 2nd Peter, Jude--NIV Application Commentary
Lloyd-Jones, Expository Sermons on 2 Peter
Bauckham, Jude, 2 Peter--Word Biblical Commentary
Harrington, Jude & 2 Peter--Sacra Pagina Vol 15
Calvin's Commentary on 2 Peter
Luther's Sermons on 2 Peter (vol 30 in Luther's Works)
Thomas Adams, A Commentary on Second Peter (1633).

While I will not be able to secure any recommendation before Saturday, I would covet your suggestions. My exegesis on 2 Peter 3:9 is essentially done, but it leaves me with a thirst to study this book in more detail.

Which books/commentaries/monographs on 2 Peter have you found useful?

  1. You could check out the TBN website, I am sure there is some quality stuff there.

    Matthew Henry is also good.

John Gill, that ole hyper Calvinist probably has some pearls too.

  2. What about Benny Hinn's "Super Annointed Commentary"?

  3. Hopefully those receommendations were "tongue in cheek" referring to the TBN and Hinn's books.

  4. Regardless, both men are now baned from further commenting (just kidding).

  5. So how did it go?

I heard you had them weeping in the pew and they confessed every Arminian thought they ever entertained.

    Something you would do again?

  6. Post something new, I am bored and your job is to entertain me.

  7. How about J. Vernon McGee's commentary on 2 Peter and also The New International Commentary on the New Testament coverning 2 Peter? I've heard good things about William Hendriken's and R.C.H. Lenski's commentary's as well.

And for whatever it's worth, over on Tim Challie's blog, he had an entry giving recommendations on commentaries you might check out.

[BTW, I discovered your blog in an indirect manner and have added it to my blog's bloglists.]
