God's sovereignty in goodbyes

This morning I am preparing to say goodbye to a congregation I dearly love.  Six weeks ago I announced my resignation as pastor of Indian River Baptist Church and transition to another ministry in Ohio.

Some were hurt, others angry, many confused...and all of us cried. Yet even through these emotions there was a corporate desire to bring this painful reality under the lordship of Christ.  Over the past 6 weeks my wife and I have received an overflow of love, support, and blessing from a congregation that--though grieving--ultimately finds its joy in the wonderful truth that God is sovereign. When we recognize that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is in control then is no room for fear, worry, or resentment.

My prayer this morning is that my family, and this faithful congregation in Northern Michigan, continues to see the wonderful sovereignty of God, even in goodbyes.
