I have never been a fan of the "God sized" or "God shaped" hole in the heart metaphor. The unregenerate heart is not sized for nor shaped for God but is stony and rebellious.

Calvinism wouldn't deny the concept of a "God-sized hole", so to speak. There is a "hole" insofar as we refuse to recognize God as the sovereign King.

Obviously, though, all metaphors break down....:o)

Smile.fm, back when they were just plain old 89.3 The Light, used to play some song ad infinitum that talked about this very issue. I wonder, though, is there really a "hole," so to speak? If Romans 1 is true and every man has full knowledge of God but suppresses that truth in unrighteousness, is there a "hole?" If Calvin's "sensus divinitatis" is real, then there is no hole, is there? Man is full of sufficient knowledge but his depraved nature suppresses it.

Then, isn't "God-sized hole" a sort of oxymoron? God, being infinite, would not fit in a hole, which by definition has boundaries. A hole the size of God doesn't make sense, at least in my feeble mind. To get philosphical, you know....
